Formed in 1988 by TAKURO (Gt.) and TERU (Vo.). HISASHI (Gt.) joined in 1989, and JIRO (Ba.) joined in 1992, forming the current lineup, and made their major debut in 1994.

In 2005, the members established their own office, and in June 2010, with the idea of "making GLAY more straightforward about music," they launched their own label "loversoul music & associates" (renamed "LSG" in 2016) and EC site "GLAY Official Store G-DIRECT." Furthermore, in 2017, they launched the official subscription-based app "GLAY app" which distributes all of GLAY's music and videos. They continue to strive to reach higher with their own unique stance so that GLAY can challenge all possibilities through music.

From 2024 to 2025, when they will celebrate their 30th anniversary, they will carry out various activities under the theme of "GLAY EXPO."
